Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, over half a second off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
